A Place of Belonging
I was born in Colorado and spent much of my youth in the San Juan and La Plata mountains of Southern Colorado. After high school I moved to many places including Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and then Las Vegas. Every time I returned home to Colorado to visit family I asked myself “why am I not here?” My heart ached to be in the mountains and for the peace they provided. It was a long road to come home. Many pieces of my life had to die and many other pieces had to fall into place for the conditions to be right for me to return home. But when I did the places inside of me that felt chaotic quieted and I felt like I belonged again. I felt like I shed a thick skin and was now open to who I always was. Being in the mountains gets me in touch with my most authentic self. The self that is not afraid, the self that has joy and the self that is safe.
This little cabin feels like a place I should have lived my whole life, deep in the mountains amidst the backdrop of my favorite place to be. This piece speaks to a spiritual homecoming where you know that the world makes sense and you feel a sense of connection and a place of belonging.
