Where did you sleep last night? In a warm bed, belly full of food? Maybe a dog or cat at your side? Didn’t it feel safe?

Hi, I am Betsy. I am a Fine Art Photographer, artist and poet. I am the founder Point of Light Photo.

About 7 years ago, death arrived in my life taking my boyfriend and my mother within 4 months of one another. I came face to face with how short life is. I realized that nothing is promised.

I knew I had to go try to make my dream of being a photographer a reality. There is a wild, wonderful, beautiful world out there and too many of us die without seeing very much of it.

These two deaths fueled me to create. I think I was born a little wild, with dirt in my hair and wind in my veins. When I create, there is a sensation that I am negotiating with death to hold off and let me live a bit more. Photography has become as necessary as my heartbeat. It is now my creative force.

I create to know I am alive. I need to see the world in all the seasons, all the expressions of light, the towering mountains, the ferocity of the storms and the calm of the lakes. I create images that show the world I live in, the world of my peace, the mountains, the lakes, the rivers, the glory and stately beauty of the wild places.

I share my work to give others that experience of the wild, untamed magic of the world through my lens; others who may not be able to explore as I do so that maybe even if they are confined in some way either through their jobs or by their health, they can live a bit through me. I share this work so that my singular endeavor can multiply for many to share. Each image I bring home is proof that I am alive, proof that the world isn’t lost to me yet, that I have more to see.

And though there is more for me to see, I also see pain and suffering in this world. I have seen homeless people sleeping in snow, in bitter cold, being ignored, laying in gutters. I have seen animals chained and starved for no good reason. I have seen abuse and neglect of these sweet animals. I can’t live like this. I have to try to make things better.

I founded Point of Light Photo as an answer to all this. I create images to know I am alive. I share them with you as fine art prints so that you can bring that sublime energy of our wild places into your life, so you can feel the timeless beauty of nature. I give the profits from these sales to organizations that feed and house the homeless. I give profits to animal rescue organizations to end the cruelty of neglect and abuse that many animals experience.
