The last soft blue light of the day on the Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park reduces the dunes to line, form, and subtle tonal shifts. Their repeating contours suggest the rhythm of waves, creating a sense of movement within an otherwise quiet landscape. Stripped of scale and detail, the dunes become almost abstract, less a record of a place than an expression of stillness.

Solace reflects my complicated relationship with solitude. Grief taught me what it meant to be alone, but time spent in wild places taught me that aloneness does not have to mean loneliness. There can be comfort in silence, freedom in solitude, and even happiness in needing nothing more than the landscape and your own company.
