When death rose its head in front of me a sense of urgency overtook me. The loss of my boyfriend and my mother in 4 months sent me spiraling downward. A new sense of the fragility of life was carved on my heart. The idea of nothing is promised became a mantra for me. There was chaos in my heart. The only way I knew forward was to go and experience life in every way I could, to go explore the wild places that I needed to see to feel alive.

This is one of those places. Hidden in a secluded canyon this glacially fed waterfall has the color of cobalt and feels just as precious, a shimmering ribbon tumbling gracefully down the rocky cliff face. The water creates a symphony of sound, echoing off the canyon walls with a melodic resonance that healed me when I was sorely in need of healing. The ferns surrounding the falls turn brilliant yellows in the fall. Being here reminded me that I had more to live for, that life was not lost to me yet.
